There’s something afoot at the vineyards. Under the dark blanket of night, shadowy figures move through the vines. A witches’ coven? A goblin gathering? No, it’s harvest season, one of the most exciting times of the year in wine country! It’s hard to describe, but there’s magic in seeing grape clusters hanging heavy on the vines ready to be turned into delicious, award-winning wine. The quality of the fruit is a real testament to the care and attention given to it throughout the year. (See gorgeous pics from Toje Wine's harvest below!)

October feels like a celebration here. It’s the camaraderie and energy of everyone gathering to quickly pick grapes before the morning sun. It’s the harvest parties wineries hold for their members. It’s the last push of the season’s hard labor. Harvest season is the perfect gateway to the relaxing holiday season.

November is an exhale, ushering in a quieter time. The green of the grapes vines gives way to oranges and browns as they enter winter slumber. There’s a beauty to the slower pace. Visitors get more attention from proprietors in wineries that are slammed all summer. Traffic is lighter. People linger longer. Yet, the mood is festive as December approaches.

“Cozy” is the word that best describes holidays at the wineries. Fireplaces are lit – they’re especially lovely in the wine caves. Garlands and wreaths adorn windows and doors. Gingerbread houses start popping up. I recommend the Holiday Lights trolley tour in December that brings you around Napa to see the lights. It's nostalgic and super fun.

Whether you come for the harvest or the holidays, autumn and early winter at the wineries has something for everyone. Reach out with your preferences and I’ll put together an itinerary that hits all your sweet spots.
